Extra Credit for the "Movie on the Lawn" Attendees

Thanks to my little honeybees who sacrificed their Friday night to see The Secret Life of Bees on the school lawn. I hope you all enjoyed it.

Now, here is your extra credit (do all three sections):

Tell me one scene in the movie that was not in the book. Did you like that it was added? Why did it make the plot better or help you understand an event or character better?

Tell me one scene in the book that was not in the movie that you wished the director had included. Tell me why you feel it should have been included.

Now that you have read two novels and have seen the movie versions of both, compare and contrast the two genres? After you compare and contrast them, do you prefer one over the other, and why?

I will post pictures soon. I have to work on my FCAT Camp lesson right now! haha!

One scene in the book that I feel should have been in the movie is Mary day, I felt that the rituals that they did on that day were important and opened Lily's mind to see how these lady's did different religious things. The only thing that they showed about Mary was the story and such, but it was a greater deal in the book than it was in the movie.

P.S. Yesterday was really fun! :)

One scene in the movie that was not in the book was the scene where zach goes to watch a movie with Lily. I did like that it was added, it made the plot better because you could really see how blacks didin't like whites with blacks together, and how whites didin't like black with whites. It also changed Zach and made him want to be a lawyer even more to kick some "white ass" as he thought in the book.

Tell me one scene in the book that was not in the movie that you wished the director had included. Tell me why you feel it should have been included.

One scene in the book that was not in the movie that i wished the director had included was when Lily called her dad in the lawyer's office. I feel like it should had been included because thats the part where Lily wonders if her dad atleast misses her. So she calls im and thats how he finds her.

The novel twilight and the movie were great too, but nothing like how i expected it to be. It missed to many important parts from the novel so for whoever didin't read the novel found no point in the movie.
secret life of bees was amazing the novel and the book. The book was more detailed than the movie but they did an awsome job in the movie and picking the characters. The movie made sense for anyone who didin't read the novel.
I love the novel Twilight because of the story line and love story of Edward and Bella but Secret life of bees was more inspring towards life. The movie was also as impacting as the novel but less detailed.

The movie lawn was awesome hope we do it again soon.

I'm such a dork, I didn't do all three sections, here are the other two:

Tell me one scene in the movie that was not in the book. Did you like that it was added? Why did it make the plot better or help you understand an event or character better?
One scene that was in the movie that was not in the novel was when Rosaleen and Lily were sitting by the lake at night and Lily decides to go her "seperate ways" but instead just goes and sits on the other side of the lake. In the book they actually go in two different directions. This scene helped me understand Rosaleen and Lily better because it showed how much they cared about eachother and how they wanted to stick together.

Now that I have read both "Twilight" and "The Secret Life of Bees" I can honestly say that they were both excellent novels. Twilight was a part of the fiction genre because most of the things in that book do not exist and cannot happen. As for The Secret Life of Bees, it is considered to be realistic fiction because most of the things that happened in this book could happen in real life, for example, someone just like August could own a bee farm if they wanted to.
Honestly, I prefered Twilight over The Secret Life of Bees because the book hooked my attention more. I think it was since it was more of a romance than anything else. How Bella a normal human falls in love with Edward a vampire who is attracted to the sweet scent of Bella's blood.

Crod I would love to do my research paper on Shakspere. Not about shakspere in general but his play on Romeo and Juliet. And how this story is compared and contrasted with the relationship of Zach and Lily in the story in TSLOB.

Well in the movie they added Lily saying another question to T- Ray at the end of the movie when he is about to leave in his car. Instead of "did I kill my mother," it was something like "did my mother come for me, or for her stuff." I think the quote from the book makes more sense for the ending, its like thats what Lili wanted to know from the begging- the true question.

I wish the director wouldn't have taken out that May found out bout Zach going to jail on the phone. It makes more sense by the phone, like the time she had to write the letter, more time to see her pain. That part would have made more sense with that scene included.

If i had to pick from both novels, I would pick Twilight. I know that TSLOB has a better plot, and more literary tools, but TSLOB doesnt grab my attention. Im a sucker for a a teenage horror romantic comedy films. Ok so Twilight is fiction such as TSLOB, but Twilight isn't realistic. Half the things that happen in Twilight couldnt happen in real life. While in TSLOB, things like that could happen, in fact they did happen.Twilight is more of a horror film with a mix of comedy and romance. While TSLOB, is more historical with a mix of drama and romance in certain parts.

One scene that was in the movie but not in the book is the scene in which Zach goes to the movies with Lily. I did like this scene because it helped me understand not juts the characters, Lily and Zach, but also the social environment in which the book takes place. It helped me understand how love can be found in the darkest times.

One scene that was in the book but not in the movie was the scene in which Lily visits Zach in jail. I feel this was an important scene to include because it shows the characters love one another. I also feel that the director should have included this scene because it shows the poor conditions that he had to face when he was incarcerated.

Twilight was a fictional novel that had some gothic factors in it, such as: the existing of vampires, the gifts they possessed, and the prohibited romance between two characters. The Secret Life of Bees was also a fictional novel, but included a historical background and a more dramatic tone. Even though these two novels are very different, they both deal with a prohibited love between the characters. If I had to choose between one or the other it would be I liked the TSLOB, and its because its plot was more realistic and the writing really transferred the emotions of each and every single character to me better than Twilight.

Remember, folks, I am asking you to compare the two genres (film vs novel), not Twilight vs Secret Life of Bees.

Please fix and resubmit.

fixing my mistake on the extra credit

The movie unlike the book, included a scene in which Lily goes to the movies with Zach. the movie also changed the way Mayfinds out where Zach had been, and also the way Terrance finds Lily. Unlike the movie the book included Mary Day, a celebration of Marys assumption.

One scene in the movie that was not in the book was the last scene where June, August, and Rosaleen are on the porch. It was actually supposed to be 8 of them not 3. And the lines were completely changed. But well it didn't really make much of a difference because it still made the point that though Lily lost her mother, she still had other 3 women who cared for her and gave her the love of a mother.

Tell me one scene in the book that was not in the movie that you wished the director had included. Tell me why you feel it should have been included.

I wish that the river scene had been included in the movie. It was a really funny part of the book and would've added a little more humor to the movie. I found the movie to be more serious than the book was. So that scene with the whole "jiggle-tit and all" would have been really funny in the movie.

Now that you have read two novels and have seen the movie versions of both, compare and contrast the two genres? After you compare and contrast them, do you prefer one over the other, and why?

Twilight the novel and the movie were both very good. The only big problem was that the movie missed alot of scenes that the book had that would have made those who hadn't read the novel understand the whole story better. Now The Secret Life of Bees was just plain amazing. The novel was extremely decriptive and let me imagine every single thing that was happening. The movie also did the same, though it changed a couple of parts around, it was still alot more detailed than Twilight was and didn't skip so many parts. I think the person who did The Secret Life of Bees movie did a better job than the one that did Twilight.

One scene that was in the movie but not in the book was the scene of Zach and Lily going to the movies together. I did like that this scene was added because it explained there love more and how they didn't care what people thought about them; because there love was stronger than that. I liked that it focused a little bit more on their romance .

Tell me one scene in the book that was not in the movie that you wished the director had included. Tell me why you feel it should have been included.

I think that they should have added the scene of the daughters of Mary all working together to spread the honey on Our Lady of Chains. I think it should have been added because it would have explained more what the statute meant to them and what it was for.It would have shown the union between the woman and their beliefs
.

The movie and the book were completely different. The book had more details and got more into the emotional parts and the real meaning behind things, while the movie was just a quick summary of the book. It skipped alot of the details and some that would have caused the movie to be longer. Most of the important parts were cut out and little pieces were added to link the next part of the book together. I prefered the book, because it got more into detail and it was more emotional. After reading the book you create an image in your head and them when you see the movie it seems like bad acting or that they are just trying to hard.
